Learning English through other subjects is a form of CLIL, which stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning. By combining the study of language with the study of another interesting topic area, you can effectively learn two subjects for the price of one! We offer a wide range of subjects to suit your personal interests and preferences. Choose any combination and start improving your English skills today!
CLIL at FoL
Our current subject selection includes Art, History, Literature, Philosophy, and Theology. We are continuing to develop courses to expand this selection. These courses provide an exciting way to improve your English while remaining interesting topics in their own right, taught by specialist subject teachers. If that wasn’t enough, it is also possible to customise your learning schedule to work on any number of subjects simultaneously!

As we move through history, as empires have risen and fallen, and civilisation has evolved in unimaginable ways, art has always been there to reflect these movements and shine a light on how mankind has responded expressively to an ever-changing world. From the earliest myths and legends of ancient history, through classic fairy tales and the plays of Shakespeare, and on to modern spoken word poetry and graphic novels, people have always found exciting and innovative ways to reinvent this long-standing art form.
Here we will look closer and discover how literature comes alive; exploring how characters and their worlds roll out before us through the beauty of language and storytelling, and look at the techniques that great writers deploy to bring us along for the ride.

Philosophy asks the questions that matter most. It challenges your assumptions and examines life’s ultimate questions: ‘Who am I?’, ‘How should I live my life?’. From ethics to metaphysics, philosophy provides the tools to think logically and critically about the true nature of life.
Our philosophy course covers a wide of philosophical topics including both Continental and Anglo-American schools of philosophy. Topics we cover include: ancient philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, ontology, ethics, existentialism, philosophy of religion, logic, philosophy of mind, as well as any other philosophical field of interest.
Our philosophical journey doesn’t stop there with philosophers and theories, we also focus on the key transferable skills, that will help you in every conceivable aspect of life. Philosophy provides a frame for how to view the world, live your own lives and think for yourself critically.

Learn English through Theology and Apologetics… The Bible is a big book, full of a lot of information, but do you really know what it teaches? There’s a lot of confusion out there about what it says, and what people are meant to believe. Learn about Christianity and how it relates to history, science, and ethics.
We live in the age of information, and we all have access to a wealth of knowledge on the gadgets we carry in our pockets. The danger of this is that it has come with a large amount of misinformation, and often truth and reality get buried by misconceptions. Apologetics is about sorting through the information, and finding what is really accurate. Apologetics means making and defending a case. With a focus on Christian theology, we will look at both what to believe, and reasons to believe.
We welcome your tough questions and lively, respectful discussion. We don’t expect everyone to agree, but our focus is on using methods to filter accurate truth from misinformation.
